Disney’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event ran from August 14 through 16 in Anaheim and delivered one of the denser announcement cycles in recent years. The three-day gathering mixed film, television, parks infrastructure, and select gaming developments. What follows is a focused community briefing that prioritizes the areas most relevant to Ruin Gaming members—gaming crossovers and Disneyland/Disney Parks news—before covering the major Marvel and Star Wars entertainment reveals that dominated much of the public conversation.

Gaming Developments and Disneyland Relevance

For a multi-game community whose members frequently track large-scale IP ecosystems, the clearest gaming signal at D23 centered on Kingdom Hearts. Square Enix and Disney used the 25th anniversary of the franchise to announce an original anime series inspired by the games, greenlit for both Disney Channel and Disney+. The project involves Tetsuya Nomura and is described as expanding the established universe rather than simply adapting existing titles. In parallel, Kingdom Hearts IV received a late-2027 release window confirmation along with the revelation that it will include a world drawn from Coco and the Land of the Dead. Two headlining attractions were detailed: a Maleficent roller coaster that travels through her fortress and a dark boat ride centered on the Magic Mirror. Marvel Studios used the Entertainment Showcase to advance several high-profile theatrical and streaming projects. The untitled X-Men film received its full principal cast reveal for a May 5, 2028 theatrical release: Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Scott Summers, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Nathaniel Essex, also known as Mister Sinister. Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for December 18, 2026, was supported by a special look and onstage appearances from Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell; tickets are already on sale.
