Best of 2016 2016 MMORPG year in review. 2016 offered a rich selection of new expansions and updates within the massive multiplayer online genre. Choosing the best games to invest time and resources in requires a deep understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the many games available. Our philosophy has always been to send members to scout every promising game on the market to provide hands on reporting to make the best decision on which games should be focused on at any given time. The MMORPG genre is an increasingly crowded and competitive environment, to stand out as a game worthy as the primary focus for our community a title must be truly exceptional while providing compelling content regularly. Ruin has focused on massive multiplayer online siege pvp based games throughout our history, currently The Elderscrolls Online provides the best large scale siege pvp environment for our community. In other areas of game play other MMOS stand out. Ruin maintains large active communities in all of these titles. World of Warcraft: Legion remains the best raiding, dungeon and general player versus environment online multiplayer game on the market, offering well polished progression experience and an engaging story line with the typical level of Blizzard artistic excellence. Legion was voted the best MMORPG expansion of 2016 by Massivelyop. Ruin maintains an active Alliance guild on the North American Tichondrius server. The Elderscrolls Online excels at massive multiplayer pvp and siege warfare. Cyrodiil and the Imperial City stand out in terms of scale and variety of play, dwarfing the campaigns of other comparable MMORPG titles. ESO offers a tremendous amount of content, voted the most improved MMORPG of 2016 from Massivelyop. Ruin maintains an active Aldmeri Dominion guild on the North American mega server. Star Wars The Old Republic: Knights of the Eternal Throne easily delivers the most engaging and well delivered role playing experience. The Star Wars universe Ruin maintains an active Sith Empire guild on the Bastion North American server. World of Warcraft: Legion World of Warcraft: Legion best MMORPG expansion World of Warcraft has made vast improvements over the previous Warlords of Draenor Expansion. The World is alive with activity thanks to the implementation of server clusters, ensuring that each phase of a zone is well populated. Level scaling, a system in which players regardless of their level are still able to contribute and experience any zone of the Broken Isles,is an improvement that should be applied to all zones in World of Warcraft. The World Quest system stands out as a major content addition, providing player incentives to re-visit areas for relevant character rewards such as gear, artifact power and order hall resources. World of Warcraft has made many improvements in an effort to modernize and compete. Implementation of the world quest and level scaling system across all of World of Warcraft is a necessity. The Old Republic, Elder Scrolls Online and Guild Wars 2 have already introduced their own versions of level scaling and world questing providing a much more flexible game play experience. Imagine every legacy zone in World of Warcraft given the Legion treatment, every quest hub would become a potential World Quest providing relevant and compelling upgrades scaled to each individual player. Incentives such as Artifact Power, Order Hall resources, gear based on a player’s current item level. Each zone would offer different sets and unique bonuses while providing a base level of stats normalized across all zones. Every zone in World of Warcraft would instantly become relevant and compelling again. The power of nostalgia alone would compel legions of players to return. Implementing a mega server solution would allow for all zones to have high populations, providing ample players to play with and against. Long under used legacy areas Legacy difficulty levels could be provided to all existing raids alongside normal, heroic and mythic. Meanwhile all raids would become level scaled to players, making their loot tables once again relevant. The set bonuses and unique style, proc on use effects would be scaled to max level. This system exists already within Elder Scrolls Online and to a lesser extent Star Wars The Old Republic with the new Galactic Command System. Elder Scrolls Online The Elder Scrolls online has made massive improvements in 2016 with the launch of One Tamriel Why: Plays like a traditional Elder Scrolls Game. Massive open world, level sync. You can play anywhere, all content scaled to your character, rewards similarly scaled. Ability to participate in pvp at low levels. Cyrodiil The Cyrodiil province acts as a massive pvp siege zone. The promise of massive multiplayer online RPGs has always been the ability to connect with and complete challenges with a group of other players. Raiding, large scale pvp are about achieving objectives that would be impossible alone, building cities, defeating dragons and rancors, creating powerful guilds and in game corporations, forging alliances between other groups of players or going to war. The intrigue, politics and triumphs possible within the MMORPGs makes the genre stand out due to the complexity and possibilities that interaction between a massive number of players allows. The Elder Scrolls Online has included many much needed reforms that Ruin has advocated for implementation in Star Wars: The Old Republic and World of Warcraft including: Regional Mega Servers, all players in North America play together. In keeping with the game play style that the Elder Scrolls have always been known for, all zones in ESO have level syn, a system that means that players regardless of level with be able to complete objectives together. A max level and level 1 can group and contribute in the same open world objective, dungeon or world boss.
