RSI Perseus: Heavy Gunship – Full Interior Tour and Live 4.4 Breakdown
By RUIN– Ruinnation.com Amid the chaos of IAE 2955 and the rollout of Alpha 4.4, Roberts Space Industries has finally delivered the RSI Perseus in flyable form. This $800 heavy gunship is built from the ground up to shred Idrises, Polaris corvettes, and entire fighter wings — and the first full interior datamine tour by itsjojo proves it lives up to every ounce of the decade-long hype. At 100.5 m long and over 4.1 million kg, the Perseus sits squarely between the Polaris and Hammerhead in both size and role, but with firepower and interior refinement that arguably eclipses both. A Gleaming Predator on the OutsideThe exterior is pure RSI aggression: mirror-finish metallic panels, massive engine nacelles emblazoned with “RSI Perseus,” and dual docking ports with huge windows that scream carrier compatibility. The engine note is a deep, guttural roar that makes the Hammerhead sound tame, and in-flight numbers show an SCM of 150 m/s, boost to 350 m/s, and a nav max of 1,050 m/s — fast enough to run down a Polaris and agile enough (15/13/25 pitch/yaw/roll) to stay on target. Cargo Bay: From 50 SCU Concept to 96 SCU RealityThe biggest surprise is the cargo hold. The original concept promised 50 SCU — the live ship delivers 96 SCU with a gorgeous wraparound catwalk and enough vertical space to swallow an Ursa Rover, multiple Furies, or even a Storm/Nova tank when angled across the elevator. Torpedo reload doors open directly into the bay, making manual S5 restocks far easier than the Polaris spindle nightmare. Interior: Vibrant, Functional, and Surprisingly LuxuriousEvery deck drips with detail and color that outshines the Polaris:
Escape pods are plentiful, turret access is beautifully lit, and the dedicated torpedo console offers a dramatic overlook of the 20 × S5 racks below (pilot control still TBD — critical for effectiveness). The Bridge and FirepowerThe bridge is a highlight: the pilot seat slides forward and rises on a rail for perfect visibility, flanked by two remote-turret stations. The pilot appears to retain slaved control of at least one S3 remote turret when uncrewed. Main battery: four twin S8 Medusa ballistic gatlings delivering 8,500 alpha per turret at 800 m/s — out-damaging Idris S7 guns while remaining gimbal-capable. Six S2 point-defense turrets and 20 reloadable S5 torpedoes round out an arsenal that can delete sub-caps and laugh at fighters. The One Big Concern: Hull HPCurrent datamined HP values sit at roughly 95 k on critical components — only marginally tougher than a Hammerhead. A single Idris railgun hit remains lethal at range, which could severely limit the Perseus’s ability to close into its optimal brawling envelope. Community and itsjojo agree: CIG needs to roughly double (or triple) hull HP before release. Final VerdictEven with the survivability question mark, the Perseus is an absolute triumph of ship design. It’s the org gunship we’ve been begging for: gorgeous, practical, and terrifyingly lethal. When (not if) CIG buffs the hull strength, this will instantly become one of the most feared ships in the ’verse. Ruinnation Rating: 9.5/10 – Minor armor tweaks away from perfection. |
